Joe Oliveira's Background

Joe grew up in San Diego, CA before spending his college career at the University of the Pacific. At Pacific, Joe was a 3 time All Big West Conference selection before being drafted in the 15th round by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2010 MLB Draft. Joe also received his bachelor's degree in communication and master's degree in education from Pacific.

After 3 years playing professionally in the Orioles organization, Joe decided to transition into college coaching. He was hired by MLB Hall of Famer, Tony Gwynn, at San Diego State in August 2013. Joe took that opportunity and ran with it, quickly becoming one of the top assistant coaches and recruiting coordinators in the country. He was named the top recruiter in the conference in 2016 and one of the top 32 assistant coaches in the country in 2019. He helped guide the Aztecs to 4 NCAA Regional appearances and coached over 40 MLB draft picks, including 7 players that reached the major leagues, during his 8 year tenure. He also brought in a nationally ranked recruiting class every year he was with the program.

Joe was highly regarded as a rising star in the industry, but made the difficult decision to leave coaching in order to be more present  with his family. He started Oliveira Baseball Consulting, Inc in July 2021 in order to stay in the game he loves and help guide families through the recruiting process, while also providing him the flexibility in his schedule to be the husband and father he wants to be. He currently resides in the San Diego area with his wife Hillary and their 3 boys, Hudson, Rowan and Beckham.
